Notification has been made to the next of kin. The driver of the Saturn was identified as Gloria E. Palaclos (W/F/age 69) of Gretna, LA.
Driver Killed in Crash on Interstate 12 in St. Tammany Parish

Yesterday, at 11:45 PM, Louisiana State Police Troop L investigated a three-vehicle fatal crash on Interstate 12 at milepost 75.0 in St. Tammany Parish.

A 1999 Saturn four door, was traveling west on eastbound left lane of Interstate 12. While traveling the wrong way on Interstate 12, the driver of the Saturn struck an eighteen-wheeler head-on. The eighteen-wheeler was headed eastbound in the left lane and was driven by Eric L. Swinney (B/M/age 35) of Lake, MS. After impact, both vehicles traveled onto the median and struck the barrier cables. During the impact, the transmission dislodged from the Saturn and was struck by a 2005 Dodge four door, driven by Ryan D. Taylor (B/M/age 22) of Slidell, LA.

The driver of the Dodge four door, Ryan D. Taylor, of Slidell, LA, was not injured in the crash. Taylor submitted to a chemical breath test and the results indicated .000g% BAC. The passenger, Megan L. Renard (B/F/age 21) of Slidell, LA, was not injured in the crash. Both occupants were wearing their seat belts at the time of the crash.

The driver of the eighteen-wheeler, Eric L. Swinney, of Lake, MS, was not injured in the crash. Swinney submitted to a chemical breath test and the results indicated .000g% BAC. The passenger, Aaron Rivers (B/M/age 35) of Mendenhall, MS, was not injured in the crash. Both occupants were wearing their seat belts at the time of the crash.

The driver of the 1993 Saturn four door was pronounced dead at the scene by Jill Smith of the St. Tammany Parish Coroner’s Office, due to injuries sustained in the crash. Alcohol use is not suspected, however; blood was obtained and will be submitted for analysis. It is unknown if the driver was wearing her seat belt at the time of the crash.

The name of the driver of the Saturn will be released once notification has been made to the next of kin.
