Greensburg Resident Killed in Crash on Interstate 55 in Tangipahoa Parish


Today, May 14, 2009 at 2:09 AM, Louisiana State Police Troop L investigated a two-vehicle crash that resulted in the death of a Greensburg resident. The crash occurred on Interstate 55, near Tickfaw at milepost 35.1 in Tangipahoa Parish.

A 2007 Jeep Compass, driven by Lacey O. Ficklin (W/F/Age 23) of Greensburg, LA, was traveling northbound upon the right lane of Interstate 55. A 2000 Chevrolet Impala, driven by Alex A. Anderson (W/M/Age 22) of Independence, LA, was also traveling upon the right lane of Interstate 55 in front of the Jeep. The Jeep approached the Impala from behind and veered towards the right, striking the right rear corner with its left front. After impact, the Jeep began to rotate clockwise, traveled off the roadway to the right and struck a large pine tree with the driver’s side door.

The driver of the Jeep Compass, Lacey O. Ficklin, of Greensburg, LA, was pronounced dead at the scene by the Tangipahoa Parish Assistant Coroner Bruce Hostetter, due to injuries sustained in the crash. The driver was wearing her seat belt at the time of the crash. Alcohol/drugs use is not suspected in the crash; blood was obtained and will be submitted for analysis.

The driver of the Chevrolet Impala, Alex A. Anderson, of Independence, LA, was not injured in the crash. Anderson submitted to a chemical breath test and the results indicated .000g% BAC. The passenger, Jennifer A. Bailey (W/F/Age 21) of Independence, LA, was not injured in the crash. Seat belts were worn by both occupants in the vehicle.
