Edmonson, Superintendent TROOP A- NEWS RELEASE Suspected Impaired Driver Travels Wrong Way on I-10 At 6:32 AM, today, Louisiana State Police – Troop A began investigating a three-vehicle crash. The crash occurred on Interstate 10 (I-10) at milepost 189 in Ascension Parish. A Toyota Corolla traveled west in the eastbound lanes of I-10 and sideswiped a Scion XA. The collision forced the Scion off the road to the left and spin in the median. The Toyota continued west in the eastbound lanes and struck a Mazda CX7 head-on. After the crash, the impact caused the Toyota and the Mazda came to stop in the middle of I-10. The driver of the Scion, Herbert Thomas (Male/Age 38) of Baker, LA, did not sustain an injury and did not require medical attention at the scene. The driver of the Mazda, Arselle Smith (Male/Age 33) of Vacherie, LA, sustained minor injuries and was transported by Acadian Ambulance to St. Elizabeth’s Hospital in Gonzales. The driver of the Toyota, Kristen Guidry (Female/Age 22) of Baton Rouge, LA, sustained moderate injuries and was transported by Acadian AirMed to Our Lady of the Lake Hospital. Ms. Guidry was released from the hospital, transported to Ascension Parish Prison and booked for Driving While Intoxicated (1st Offense), Reckless Operation, Negligent Injuring (2 counts) and Driving The Wrong Way.
