| LOUISIANA STATE POLICE COURTESY LOYALTY SERVICE Colonel Michael D. Edmonson, Superintendent TROOP L- NEWS RELEASE For Immediate Release Date: March 20, 2009 Sobriety Checkpoints Scheduled for St. Tammany and St. Helena Parish Tonight Louisiana State Police Troop L announced that two DWI Checkpoints will be held tonight, March 20, 2009. The first DWI Checkpoint will be conducted on LA 59 at Fontainebleau High School just south of Interstate 12 in St. Tammany Parish and will be manned by Louisiana State Police and the St. Tammany Parish Sheriff’s Office. The second DWI checkpoint will be conducted on LA 16 at LA 441 in St. Helena Parish and it will be manned by Louisiana State Police, Louisiana Department of Wildlife and Fisheries and the St. Helena Sheriff’s Office. Both checkpoints will begin at approximately 10:00 P.M. Every year on the highways across the state of Louisiana, numerous people are killed or seriously injured because of an impaired driver. Sobriety checkpoints are an effective enforcement tool because they serve as a deterrent to impaired and drunken driving. The task of stopping these impaired drivers is a joint effort of law enforcement agencies and the public. We need the public to assist by not allowing someone to leave their house as an impaired driver and reporting possible impaired drivers to their local police stations. The State Police number to call is *LSP or (*577) on your cell phone. “Alcohol or Drugs, Impairment is Impairment! Drive Impaired Get Arrested" & Remember, the only designated driver is the person who has had NO ALCOHOL.
