Edmonson, Superintendent TROOP L- NEWS RELEASE For Immediate Release Date: March 20, 2009 **Update** Today, March 20, 2009, the St. Tammany Parish Coroner's Office was able to positively identify the driver of the Chevrolet Blazer as 43 year old Mark Walton from Franklinton, LA. Driver Killed in Crash on LA 1081 in St. Tammany Parish Yesterday, just before 4:30 PM, Louisiana State Police Troop L investigated a one-vehicle fatal crash on LA 1081, just north of LA 437 in St. Tammany Parish. A 1996 Chevrolet Blazer, driven by an unknown subject was traveling northbound on LA 1081. The driver failed to maintain control of his vehicle for unknown reasons and the Blazer traveled off the roadway to the right. The driver steered abruptly to the left and then back to the right causing the Blazer to rotate counterclockwise, traveling off the roadway to the right and flipping several times. At some point during the roll over, the unrestrained driver was ejected out of the vehicle. The vehicle came to final rest on the roadway facing in a northwesterly direction. The unknown driver of the Chevrolet Blazer was transported to St. Tammany Hospital by Acadian Air-Med to receive medical treatment for severe injuries. Once at St. Tammany Hospital the driver was pronounced dead by Dr. Polk, due to injuries sustained in the crash. Passenger one, Willie Pierce (B/M/age 50) of New Orleans, LA, was transported to Lakeview Medical Center by Acadian Ambulance to receive medical treatment for moderate injuries. Passenger two, Lawrence Silvester (B/M/age 39) of New Orleans, LA, was transported to Lakeview Medical Center by Acadian Ambulance to receive medical treatment for moderate injuries. The driver was not wearing his seat belt at the time of the crash and seat belt usage by the passengers is unknown. Alcohol use is suspected in the crash; blood was obtained and will be submitted for analysis.
