Edmonson, Superintendent TROOP L- NEWS RELEASE For Immediate Release Date: April 3, 2009 **UPDATE** Louisiana State Police Troop L and Louisiana State Police Detectives are still investigating the Hit and Run fatal crash that took the life of George Downing Jr. on March 25, 2009. If you have a tip that leads to the arrest and conviction of the unknown driver, Crime Stoppers of Tangipahoa Parish will pay you up to $2,500.00 cash. Date: March 26, 2009 Troop L Seeks Assistance in Hit and Run Fatal on Interstate 55 in Tangipahoa Parish On Wednesday, March 25, 2009, at approximately 11:50 PM, Louisiana State Troopers investigated a hit and run fatality crash in Tangipahoa Parish, which resulted in the death of a pedestrian. The crash occurred on Interstate 55 northbound, north of Kentwood, LA, at milepost 62. The crash occurred when an unknown vehicle, driven by an unknown driver was traveling north on Interstate 55. The unknown vehicle traveled off the roadway to the right, partially upon the right shoulder and grass area, striking a pedestrian, George Downing Jr. (B/M/age 52) of Kentwood, LA, while walking on the northbound shoulder near the grass line. Evidence located at the scene enabled troopers to determine the cause of the fatal crash. The pedestrian, George Downing Jr., was pronounced dead at the scene by the Tangipahoa Parish Coroner’s Office, due to injuries sustained in the crash. Blood was obtained and will be sent to be analyzed.
