Two Drivers Killed in Crash on LA 16 in St. Helena Parish

Today, just before 5:00 AM this morning, Louisiana State Police Troop L investigated a two-vehicle fatal crash on LA 16, two miles west of LA 63 in St. Helena Parish.

A 2005 Ford pickup, driven by Jennifer Adams (W/F/age 21) of Zachary, LA, was traveling westbound on LA 16. A 2008 Jeep, driven by Steve Tregre (W/M/age 32) of Baton Rouge, LA, was traveling eastbound on LA 16. The Ford crossed over the centerline on the roadway and entered the eastbound lane impacting the Jeep head-on. After impact, the vehicles rotated counter-clockwise, the Ford came to rest in the westbound lane, and the Jeep came to rest eastbound shoulder.

The driver of the Ford pickup, Jennifer Adams, of Zachary, LA, was pronounced dead at the scene by Dr. Varnado of the St. Helena Coroner’s Office, due to injuries sustained in the crash. Alcohol use is suspected for Adams; blood was obtained and will be submitted for analysis. Passenger one, James Bolten (W/M/age 27) of Livingston, LA, was transported to Ochsner Hospital (Baton Rouge) by Acadian Ambulance, to receive medical treatment for moderate injuries. Passenger two, Aaron Grimmer (W/M/age 27) of Walker, LA, was transported to Ochsner Hospital (Baton Rouge) by Acadian Ambulance, to receive medical treatment for moderate injuries. Seat belts were not used by the occupants in the crash.

The driver of the Jeep, Steve Tregre, of Baton Rouge, LA, was transported to Ochsner Hospital (Baton Rouge) by Acadian Ambulance, to receive medical treatment for severe injuries. Once at Ochsner Hospital, Tregre was pronounced dead by Dr. Nguyen, due to injuries sustained in the crash. Alcohol use is suspected for Tregre; blood was obtained and will be submitted for analysis. The driver was wearing his seat belt at the time of the crash.
