Today, shortly before 8:30 AM this morning, Louisiana State Police Troop L investigated a two-vehicle fatal crash on LA 16 at the intersection of LA 63 in St. Helena Parish.

A 2001 Ford Taurus, driven by Clara M. Galmon (B/F/age 89) of Greensburg, LA, was traveling southbound on LA 63. A 2007 Peterbilt, driven by Thomas Anthony (W/M/age 46) of Holden, LA, was traveling westbound on LA 16. Galmon failed to stop for a stop sign at the intersection of LA 63 and LA 16. Galmon’s vehicle traveled into the path of the Peterbilt and was impacted on the left side. After impact, the Taurus rotated clockwise and traveled off the roadway approximately 64 feet. The Peterbilt continued to travel west for approximately 58 feet before coming to a stop.

The driver of the Ford Taurus, Clara Galmon, of Greensburg, LA, was transported to Oschner Hospital (Baton Rouge) by Acadian Ambulance, to receive medical treatment for severe injuries. Once at Oschner Hospital, Galmon was pronounced dead by Dr. James Runnels, due to injuries sustained in the crash. Alcohol/Drug use is not suspected for Galmon; blood and urine were obtained and will be submitted for analysis. The driver was wearing her seat belt at the time of the crash.
