Louisiana State Police Trooper Deals Devastating Blow to Drug Dealers and Drug Traffickers

This morning’s seizure of crystal methamphetamine by a Louisiana State Police Trooper is the largest of the year for the department. It is the third largest crystal meth seizure in Louisiana State Police history with the largest being a 500 pound seizure from two years ago. The 2007 seizure is still the largest crystal meth seizure from a traffic stop in the nation.

Today, September 20, 2009 at 12:04 am, Louisiana State Police stopped a 2003 Ford F-250 for a traffic violation. The traffic stop was made on Interstate 12 at milepost 35 in Tangipahoa Parish. The driver of the truck was identified as thirty-four year old Heriberto G. Saenz of McAllen, TX. When the trooper encountered Saenz, he noted that the driver appeared to be very nervous and gave inconsistent stories regarding his travel plans. Written consent was obtained to search the vehicle. During the search of the pickup, 172 pounds of crystal methamphetamine (ICE) was located hidden in the bottom of an external diesel fuel tank located in the bed of the pickup. Louisiana State Police HIDTA (High Intensity Drug Trafficking Area) agents were notified and assisted in the investigation. The estimated street value of the narcotics is over 4.2 million dollars. Saenz was charged with Improper Lane Usage and Possession, Distribution and Manufacture of Schedule II Drugs. Once the investigation was complete, it was referred to the Drug Enforcement Administration (DEA) in New Orleans for further investigation.
