Edmonson, Superintendent TROOP L- NEWS RELEASE For Immediate Release June 21, 2009 Meraux Man Killed in Crash on LA 1064 in Tangipahoa Parish Today, at 10:00 AM this morning, Louisiana State Police Troop L investigated a two-vehicle fatal crash on LA 1064 at the intersection of North Stafford Road in Tangipahoa Parish. A 1997 Chevrolet Venture van, driven by Deslatte Edsel (W/M/age 51) of Meraux, LA, was traveling on North Stafford Road. A 1998 Dodge pickup, driven by Angellia Spitale (W/F/age 18) of Albany, LA, was traveling westbound on LA 1064. Edsel failed to stop for the stop sign at the intersection of North Stafford Road and LA 1064. The Chevrolet van traveled directly into the path of the Dodge pickup. The Dodge pickup impacted the driver’s side of the Chevrolet Venture van. During the crash, Edsel was partially ejected due to not being restrained. After impact, both vehicles came to rest off the south side of the roadway. The driver of the Chevrolet Venture van, Deslatte Edsel, of Meraux, LA, was pronounced dead by Bobby Bankston of the Tangipahoa Parish Coroner’s Office, due to injuries sustained in the crash. Alcohol use is not suspected for Edsel; blood was obtained and will be submitted for analysis. The driver was not wearing his seat belt at the time of the crash. The driver of the Dodge pickup, Angellia Spitale, of Albany, LA, was transported to North Oaks Hospital by Acadian Ambulance to receive medical treatment for minor injuries. Alcohol use is not suspected for Spitale; blood was obtained and will be submitted for analysis. Spitale was wearing her seat belt at the time of the crash.
