One Killed and Two Injured in Crash on Interstate 59 in St. Tammany Parish

Shortly after 1:30 AM this morning, Louisiana State Police Troop L investigated a two-vehicle fatal crash on Interstate 59, four tenths of a mile north of Interstate 12 at milepost 0.4 in St. Tammany Parish.

A 2002 Toyota Tundra, driven by David L. Rodrigue Jr. (W/M/age 16) of Carriere, MS, was traveling southbound on Interstate 59 in the left lane. A 2004 Freightliner, driven by Shamsiddin M. Temirov (W/M/age 26) of Philadelphia, PA, was traveling southbound on Interstate 59 in the right lane. As both vehicles approached the intersection of Interstate 59 and Interstate 12, Rodrigue lost control of his vehicle, traveled over the centerline and onto the right lane. As the Toyota Tundra proceeded upon the right lane it struck the eighteen wheeler in the rear.

The driver of the Toyota Tundra, David L. Rodrigue Jr., of Carriere, MS, was pronounced dead at the scene by Investigator Jill Smith of the St. Tammany Parish Coroner’s Office, due to injuries sustained in the crash. Alcohol use by Rodrigue is suspected in the crash; blood was obtained and will be submitted for analysis. Passenger one, is a juvenile and was transported to University Hospital of New Orleans by Acadian Air Med, to receive medical treatment for severe injuries. Passenger two, also a juvenile was transported to Northshore Hospital by Acadian Ambulance, to receive medical treatment for injuries sustained in the crash. All occupants were wearing their seat belt at the time of the crash.

The driver of the Freightliner, Shamsiddin M. Temirov, of Philadelphia, PA, was not injured in the crash. Temirov submitted to a chemical breath test and the results indicated .000g% BAC. The driver was wearing his seat belt at the time of the crash.
