Unrestrained Driver Killed in Crash on Interstate 12 in St. Tammany Parish

Yesterday, shortly after 6:00 PM, Louisiana State Police Troop L investigated a one-vehicle fatal crash on Interstate 12, 3.5 miles west of LA 434 in St. Tammany Parish.

At 6:15 PM, Louisiana State Police Troop L investigated a fatal crash that resulted in the death of a Baker resident. A 2006 Chevrolet pickup, driven by Calvin Williams (B/M/Age 42) of Baker, LA, was traveling westbound on Interstate 12. Williams’s vehicle experienced tire failure on the rear right side. The driver of the pickup, over-corrected to the left, causing the pickup to travel off the roadway to the left and enter onto the grass median. The Chevrolet pickup began to rotate counter-clockwise and began to flip. At some point during the roll over, the unrestrained driver was ejected out of the vehicle. The pickup came to rest in the eastbound lanes of Interstate 12.

The driver of the Chevrolet pickup, Calvin Williams, of Baker, LA, was transported to University Hospital in New Orleans by Acadian Air-Med, to receive medical treatment for severe injuries. Troop L was later notified that Calvin Williams was pronounced dead by Dr. Timmer, due to injuries sustained in the crash. The driver was not wearing his seat belt at the time of the crash. Alcohol use is not suspected in the crash; blood was obtained and will be submitted for analysis.
