Edmonson, Superintendent TROOP L- NEWS RELEASE For Immediate Release July 8, 2009 Springfield Resident Killed in Crash on LA 22 in Tangipahoa Parish Yesterday, July 7, 2009 at 1:00 PM, Louisiana State Police Troop L investigated a two-vehicle crash that resulted in the death of a Springfield resident. The crash occurred on LA 22 at the intersection of Rosaryville Road in Tangipahoa Parish. A 2005 Nissan four door, driven by Terrence J. Nelson (B/M/Age 24) of Hammond, LA, was traveling westbound upon LA 22. A 2009 Harley Davidson motorcycle, driven by Charlie W. Albert (W/M/Age 54) of Springfield, LA, was traveling eastbound upon LA 22. As both vehicles approached the intersection of Rosaryville Road, the Nissan proceeded to make a left turn directly in front of the motorcycle. The motorcycle impacted the right passenger door of the Nissan. The driver of the Harley Davidson, Charlie W. Albert, of Springfield, LA, was transported to North Oaks Medical Center by Acadian Ambulance, to receive medical treatment for severe injuries. Once at North Oaks, Charlie Albert was pronounced dead by Dr. Reinieke, due to injuries sustained in the crash. Alcohol/drugs use is not suspected in the crash; blood was obtained and will be submitted for analysis. The driver of the motorcycle was wearing his helmet at the time of the crash. The driver of the Nissan four door, Terrence J. Nelson, of Hammond, LA, was transported to North Oaks Medical Center by Acadian Ambulance, to receive medical treatment for moderate injuries. Alcohol/drugs use is not suspected in the crash; blood was obtained and will be submitted for analysis. The driver of the Nissan was wearing his seat belt at the time of the crash. Once released from the hospital, Nelson was booked into the Tangipahoa Parish Jail on the following charges, Failure To Yield While Turning Left At Intersection (R.S. 32:122) and Negligent Homicide (R.S. 14:32).
