Edmonson, Superintendent TROOP L- NEWS RELEASE For Immediate Release July 12, 2009 Pedestrian Killed in Crash on LA 59 in St. Tammany Parish On Saturday, July 11, 2009 at 11:37 p.m., Louisiana State Police Troop L began investigating a fatal crash involving a pedestrian on LA 59 at milepost 9.5 in St. Tammany Parish. Chanin McCall (W/F, age 39) of Covington, LA, was struck when she stepped out of a ditch and upon LA 59 in front of a 2008 Dodge Ram Pickup traveling in the northbound lane. The pickup, being driven by Eric Hayman (W/M, age 48) of Sandy Hook, MS, struck McCall with its front cap. Hayman was uninjured as a result of the crash. Hayman voluntarily submitted to a chemical test for intoxication. The chemical test showed that Hayman had no alcohol in his system. Hayman was wearing his seat belt at the time of the crash. The pedestrian, Chanin McCall was pronounced dead at the scene of the crash, by Assistant Coroner Mike Rodrigue of the St. Tammany Parish Coroner’s Office, due to injuries sustained in the crash. Alcohol use by McCall is suspected to have been a factor in this crash and blood has been obtained and submitted for chemical analysis.
