Driver Killed in Crash on LA 21 in St. Tammany Parish

Today, Louisiana State Police Troop L investigated a one-vehicle fatal crash on LA 21, three tenths of a mile north of LA 40 in St. Tammany Parish.

At 12:30 AM, Louisiana State Police Troop L investigated a fatal crash that resulted in the death of a Franklinton resident. A 2004 Chevrolet pickup, driven by Johnny W. Marks (B/M/Age 32) of Franklinton, LA, was traveling southbound on LA 21. Marks’ vehicle crossed over the centerline, entered upon the northbound lane and then traveled onto the northbound shoulder. Marks overcorrected to the right and the vehicle traveled back onto the southbound lane of LA 21. He abruptly steered back to the left and the pickup began to rotate counterclockwise. As the pickup was rotating, the rear of the vehicle traveled off the roadway. The vehicle once again traveled back onto the roadway and began to overturn. At some point during the roll over, the unrestrained driver was ejected out of the vehicle.

The driver of the Chevrolet pickup, Johnny W. Marks, of Franklinton, LA, was pronounced dead at the scene by Jill Smith of the St. Tammany Parish Coroner’s Office, due to injuries sustained in the crash. The driver was not wearing his seat belt at the time of the crash. Alcohol/drugs use is not suspected in the crash; blood was obtained and will be submitted for analysis.
