Edmonson, Superintendent TROOP L- NEWS RELEASE For Immediate Release July 19, 2009 Fatal Crash on LA 16 Takes the Life of a Greenwell Springs Resident Today, at 7:00 AM in the morning, Louisiana State Police Troop L investigated a two-vehicle fatal crash on LA 16, 1.5 miles west of LA 43 in St. Helena Parish. A 2006 Ford F-250 pickup, driven by Arthur W. Temple (W/M/age 44) of Liberty, MS, was traveling west on LA 16. A 2002 Ford pickup pulling a trailer, driven by Allen K. Marchand (W/M/age 45) of Greenwell Springs, LA, was traveling east on LA 16 behind two other vehicles. Temple’s vehicle veered over the centerline and traveled onto the eastbound lane. The first two vehicles that were heading east observed Temple’s pickup traveling head-on in their lane of travel. The two vehicles swerved and avoided being impacted by the Ford F-250. The Ford F-250 then struck the 2002 Ford pickup head-on. The driver of the 2002 Ford pickup, Allen K. Marchand, of Greenwell Springs, LA, was pronounced dead at the scene by Dr. Varnado of the St. Helena Parish Coroner’s Office, due to injuries sustained in the crash. Alcohol use is not suspected for Marchand; blood was obtained and will be submitted for analysis. The passenger, Aaron Vancleve (W/M/age 27) of St. Amant, LA, was transported to Our Lady of the Lake by Acadian Air Med, to receive medical treatment for moderate injuries. Both occupants were wearing their seat belts at the time of the crash. The driver of the 2006 Ford F-250, Arthur W. Temple of Liberty, MS, was transported to Oschner Hospital (Baton Rouge) to receive medical treatment for moderate injuries. Upon the release of Temple from the hospital he will be booked into the St. Helena Parish Jail on the following charges; Driving Left of Center (R.S.32:71), Driving While Intoxicated (R.S.14:98), Vehicular Homicide (R.S.14:32.1) and Vehicular Negligent Injuring (R.S.14:39.2). Temple was not wearing his seat belt at the time of the crash.
