Edmonson, Superintendent TROOP L- NEWS RELEASE For Immediate Release August 18, 2009 Driver Killed Traveling Wrong Way on Interstate 12 in St. Tammany Parish Today, shortly before 3:00 AM this morning, Louisiana State Police Troop L investigated a two-vehicle fatal crash on Interstate 12, 2.5 miles east of LA 59 in St. Tammany Parish. A 2006 Chevrolet Impala, driven by Tabatha L. Price (W/F/age 21) of Covington, LA, for an unknown reason was traveling westbound upon the eastbound left lane of Interstate 12. A 2006 Kenworth 18 wheeler, driven by Melissa K. Sullivan (W/F/age 32) of Gouse Creek, SC, was traveling eastbound upon the left lane of Interstate 12. As the two vehicles approached each other, the Chevrolet Impala struck the Kenworth 18 wheeler head-on. Price was not restrained and was ejected from her vehicle during the crash. The driver of the Chevrolet Impala, Tabatha L. Price, of Covington, LA, was pronounced dead at the scene by Jill Smith of the St. Tammany Parish Coroner’s Office, due to injuries sustained in the crash. Alcohol use is suspected for Price; blood was obtained and will be submitted for analysis. Price was not wearing her seat belt during the crash and was ejected from the vehicle. The driver of the Kenworth 18 wheeler, Melissa K. Sullivan, of Gouse Creek, SC, was not injured in the crash. Sullivan submitted to a chemical breath test and the results indicated .000g% BAC. The driver of the 18 wheeler was wearing her seat belt at the time of the crash.
