Edmonson, Superintendent TROOP L - NEWS RELEASE For Immediate Release August 16, 2009 Driver of Motorcycle Killed in Crash on US 190 in St. Tammany Parish Yesterday, at 11:40 PM last night, Louisiana State Police Troop L investigated a two-vehicle fatal crash on US 190, at the intersection Herwig Bluff Road in St. Tammany Parish. A 2004 Harley Davidson motorcycle, driven by Kathy A. Comeaux (W/F/age 44) of Slidell, LA, was traveling eastbound on US 190 preparing to make a left turn onto LA 1090. A 1996 Jeep Cherokee, driven by Eric J. Deblanc (B/M/age 57) of Lacombe, LA, was traveling westbound on Herwig Bluff Road at its intersection with US 190. The crash investigation determined that as both vehicles entered the intersection, the driver of the motorcycle made a left turn without the turn arrow being activated and was struck by the Jeep that was proceeding forward on a green light. The driver of the Harley Davidson motorcycle, Kathy A. Comeaux, of Slidell, LA, was transported to Northshore Hospital by Acadian Ambulance to receive medical treatment for severe injuries. Once at Northshore Hospital, Comeaux was pronounced dead, due to injuries sustained in the crash. Alcohol use is not suspected for Comeaux; blood was obtained and will be submitted for analysis. Comeaux was wearing her helmet at the time of the crash. The driver of the Jeep Cherokee, Eric J. Deblanc, of Lacombe, LA, was not injured in the crash. Deblanc submitted to a chemical breath test and the results indicated .08g% BAC. Deblanc was charged and booked into the St. Tammany Parish Jail on the following charges, Operating a Vehicle While Intoxicated (R.S.14:98) and Negligent Homicide (R.S.14:32).
