Troopers Investigate Fatal Head-On Crash in St. Helena

Pine Grove- On Sunday June 2, 2019, at approximately 3:35 AM, Troopers from Louisiana State Police Troop L responded to a fatal crash on LA 16 near Calmes Rd. in St. Helena Parish. The crash has claimed the life of 38-year-old Ronald Lee Davis of Greensburg.

The initial investigation led Troopers to determine that the crash occurred as Davis was driving a 2002 Buick LeSabre eastbound on LA 16. For reasons still under investigation, Davis’ vehicle crossed into the westbound lane and crashed head-on into a 2002 Cadillac DeVille. The Cadillac was driven by 35-year-old John Ray Daniels of Denham Springs.

Davis sustained fatal injuries in the crash. He was pronounced deceased on-scene by the St. Helena Parish Coroner’s Office. Davis’ wife, 38-year-old Pamela Topps of Greensburg, was a front seat passenger in his vehicle. She sustained moderate injuries in the crash. Topps was transported to Our Lady of The Lake Hospital by Acadian Ambulance. Daniels sustained serious injuries in the crash and was also transported to Our Lady of The Lake Hospital via Acadian Air Med. None of the occupants in either vehicle were restrained at the time of the crash. Impairment is not suspected as a contributing factor. As part of the ongoing investigation, blood samples were collected for scientific analysis.

Troopers would like to remind motorists of the importance of safe decisions behind the wheel. Please take a moment to speak with your loved ones about the importance of their safe decisions. Remind them to always wear a seatbelt, never drive impaired, and to avoid distractions. The conversation could be the difference in a serious crash.
