Unrestrained Driver Killed on LA 43 in St. Helena Parish

Greensburg- On Saturday June 15, 2019, at approximately 9:45 AM, Troopers from Louisiana State Police Troop L were notified of a fatal crash on LA 43 near Guy Rd. in St. Helena Parish. The crash has claimed the life of 26-year-old Changela Knox of Greensburg.

The initial investigation led Troopers to estimate that the crash actually occurred several hours earlier at approximately 4:30 AM. Troopers determined that Knox was driving a 2015 Honda Accord northbound on LA 43 at Guy Rd. For reasons still under investigation, Knox’s vehicle traveled off the right side of the roadway. Knox then overcorrected to the left, causing her vehicle to cross both lanes of LA 43 and exit the left side of the roadway. Knox’s vehicle continued off the roadway into the tree line, before crashing into a large tree. Following the crash, Knox’s came to rest hidden from view behind several small trees and bushes.

Knox was not wearing a seatbelt at the time of the crash. She sustained fatal injuries and was pronounced deceased on scene by the St. Helena Parish Coroner’s Office. Impairment is unknown at this time. Blood was drawn and will be submitted to the Louisiana State Police Crime Lab for analysis.

Troopers would like to remind motorists of the importance of safe decisions behind the wheel. Please take a moment to speak with your loved ones about the importance of their safe decisions. Remind them to always wear a seatbelt, never drive impaired, and to avoid distractions. The conversation could be the difference in a serious crash.
