TROOP L NEWS RELEASE Driver Killed in Fatal Interstate 12 Crash Mandeville – At approximately 10:00 am on July 17, 2019, Louisiana State Police Troop L began investigating a fatal crash on I-12 eastbound east of LA Hwy 59 in St. Tammany Parish. The crash took the life of 39-year-old Gary T. Mercer Jr. of Brusly. The initial investigation revealed that Mercer was traveling eastbound on I-12 in a 2017 Ford Mustang. For unknown reasons, the Mustang ran off the roadway to the right onto the grassy shoulder. The Mustang then struck an unoccupied John Deere tractor that was parked near the tree line. Despite the fact that he was properly restrained, Mercer suffered fatal injuries as a result of the crash. Impairment is not suspected, but a standard toxicology sample was obtained for analysis. This crash remains under investigation, and there is no further information at this time. Louisiana State Troopers wish to remind motorists to always make good decisions while in a motor vehicle. Never drive while impaired, fatigued, or distracted, always ensure every occupant is properly restrained, and follow all traffic laws. While not all crashes are survivable, taking simple precautions such as these can often mean the difference between life and death. Contact Information: | |||
