TROOP L NEWS RELEASE Troopers Investigate Fatal Motorcycle Crash on Interstate 12 Mandeville- Shortly after 6:00 PM on Thursday February 14, 2019, Troopers from Louisiana State Police Troop L responded to a single vehicle fatal crash involving a motorcycle on Interstate 12 eastbound near LA 59 in St. Tammany Parish. The crash has claimed the life of 53-year-old Edward E. Schwarz of Mandeville. The initial on-scene investigation led Troopers to determine that the crash occurred as Schwarz was riding a 1997 Honda Gold Wing motorcycle eastbound on Interstate 12. For reasons still under investigation, the motorcycle traveled beyond the right side of the roadway and crashed into a tree. Schwarz was transported to Lakeview Regional Medical Center. He was pronounced deceased shortly after his arrival. Schwarz was wearing a DOT approved motorcycle helmet when the crash occurred. Impairment is not suspected to have contributed to this crash. Initial findings have indicated to Troopers that a medical condition could have been a contributing factor. The investigation is on-going. Troopers would like to remind motorists of the importance of safe decisions behind the wheel. Please take a moment to speak with your loved ones about the importance of their safe decisions.
