Cyclist Injured in Hit and Run Crash

Hammond- Troopers from Louisiana State Police Troop L are asking the public for assistance in locating a vehicle and driver involved in a serious injury hit and run crash. On Saturday, March 2, 2019 at 11:00 PM, Troopers responded to the scene on LA 1064 just east of North Oak Street in Tangipahoa Parish. The crash involved a bicyclist and an unknown vehicle. The injured cyclist has been identified as 39-year-old Ryan Stinson of Amite, LA.

The initial investigation has led Troopers to determine that the crash occurred as Stinson was riding a Mongoose bicycle westbound on LA 1064 on the grass/gravel side of the roadway. There was no shoulder. An unknown vehicle was also westbound on LA 1064 and traveled off the roadway and struck Stinson. Stinson was ejected from the bicycle. Stinson was transported to North Oaks Medical Center by Acadian Ambulance where he is in critical, but stable condition.

Based on evidence gathered at the scene, combined with a brief statement from Stinson, Troopers believed that the unknown vehicle is possibly a maroon Ford F-150. The crash is still under investigation. Anyone with information concerning this crash should contact Louisiana State Police Troop L at 985-893-6250.

Troopers would like to remind motorists of the importance of safe decisions behind the wheel. Please take a moment to speak with your loved ones about the importance of their safe decisions. Remind them to always wear a seatbelt, never drive impaired, and to avoid distractions. The conversation could be the difference in a serious crash.
