Alcohol and Speed Factors in Double Fatality


April 6, 2008

At 12:05 AM, on Sunday, April 06, 2008, Louisiana State Police – Troop A responded to a multiple vehicle crash. The crash occurred on Interstate 10 (I-10) service road at west of LA Hwy 3246 in East Baton Rouge Parish.

A Mazda 626 and a Toyota Pickup truck traveled east on the I-10 service road in the left lane. Traveling at a high rate of speed, the Toyota Pickup truck crashed into the rear of the Mazda 626. The impact forced the Mazda to rotate and rollover several times prior to coming to rest in a ditch to the right of the road. The Toyota continued east, exited the roadway to the left and stopped in a ditch on the left side of the road.

There were two adults and three juveniles traveling in the Mazda 626. The rear center passenger, Ladarius Favorite (a juvenile) from Geismar, LA, sustained serious injuries and was transported to Baton Rouge General – Bluebonnet. Mr. Favorite was later pronounced dead by the hospital staff. The left rear passenger, Andre Queen (a juvenile) of Gonzales, LA, sustained serious injuries and was transported to Our Lady of the Lake Hospital. Mr. Queen was later pronounced dead by the hospital staff. The driver, Shaun A. Chriss (Male/Age 22) of New Orleans, LA, and the front passenger, Leslie Williams (Female/Age 29) of Prairieville, LA, sustained minor injuries and were transported by Baton Rouge EMS to Baton Rouge General – Bluebonnet. The right rear passenger, (a juvenile) of Geismar, LA, also sustained minor injuries and did not require medical transport. Three of the occupants were wearing a seatbelt and seatbelt use for Mr. Favorite and Mr. Queen is still under investigation.

The driver of the Toyota, Mr. Chris Michael Bourgeois (Male/Age 56) of Peachtree, GA, was not injured and refused medical attention. He was placed under arrest and booked into the East Baton Rouge Parish Jail. Mr. Bourgeois is charged with Driving While Intoxicated (1st Offense), Reckless Operation, Vehicle Homicide (2 counts) and Vehicular Negligent Injuring (2 counts).
