Pedestrian Succumbs to Injuries Sustained in Iberville Parish Crash

Plaquemine Shortly after 9:00 am on October 10, 2017, Troopers from Louisiana State Police Troop A began investigating a serious injury crash involving a pedestrian on LA 1 south of LA 75 in Iberville Parish. The crash later took the life of 60 year old Lionel Asberry of Plaquemine.

The initial investigation by State Police revealed that the crash occurred as Asberry was running across LA 1. At the same time, 34 year old Corey Caillet of Plaquemine was traveling southbound on LA 1 in a 2007 Chevrolet Silverado. For reasons still under investigation, Asberry ran into the path of Caillet’s vehicle and was struck in the southbound lane of LA 1.

Asberry sustained serious injuries as a result of the crash. He was transported to Our Lady of the Lake Regional Medical Center and was later pronounced deceased by hospital staff. Caillet was properly restrained and was not injured in the crash. Impairment is not suspected but a toxicology sample will be taken from both Asberry and Caillet for analysis.
