Pedestrian Dies in Crash on LA 1064

Tickfaw – On Tuesday, February 25, 2020 shortly after 2:30 AM, Troopers from Louisiana State Police Troop L responded to a fatal crash involving a pedestrian on LA 1064 eastbound near Whittington Rd. in Tangipahoa Parish. The crash has claimed the life of 26-year-old Jacy C. Core of Tickfaw.

The initial investigation led Troopers to determine that the crash occurred as Core was standing in the eastbound lane of LA 1064 wearing dark clothing in an unlit section of the roadway. Core was struck by an eastbound Nissan Altima. Core sustained fatal injuries and was pronounced deceased on the scene. As part of the ongoing investigation, toxicology is pending on Core. The driver of the Altima was properly restrained and uninjured in the crash. Also, the driver of the Altima provided Troopers with a breath sample which detected no evidence of alcohol. The investigation is ongoing and no additional information is available at this time.

Troopers urge pedestrians to maintain an unimpaired, heightened level of awareness while walking near the road. Simple precautions such as wearing reflective materials, avoiding distractions, and walking a safe distance from travel lanes could prevent most pedestrian related crashes.
