TROOP L NEWS RELEASE Troopers Investigate Fatal Crash on LA 440 Franklinton – On Sunday, March 8, 2020 shortly after 1:00 AM, Troopers from Louisiana State Police Troop L responded to a single-vehicle, fatal crash on LA 440 west of LA 10 in Washington Parish. The crash has claimed the lives of 31-year-old Gary P. Brumfield of Kentwood and 25-year-old Anthony M. Coleman of Kentwood. The initial investigation led Troopers to determine that the crash occurred as a Chevrolet Impala was traveling westbound on LA 440. For reasons still under investigation, the Impala exited off the roadway and impacted a culvert along with a tree. Brumfield and Coleman received fatal injuries and were pronounced deceased on the crash scene. At this time, the driver of the Impala remains under investigation. Another occupant sustained serious injuries and was transported to an area hospital. None of the occupants were wearing seatbelts at the time of the crash. As part of the ongoing investigation, toxicology will be performed on Brumfield and Coleman. The investigation is ongoing and no additional information is available at this time. Louisiana State Troopers wish to remind motorists making good choices while in motor vehicles such as never driving while impaired, always ensuring every occupant is properly restrained, obeying the speed limit, and avoiding all distractions can often mean the difference between life and death. While not all crashes are survivable, statistics show that the chances of surviving a crash rise significantly when properly restrained. Contact Information: | |||
