TROOP L NEWS RELEASE Motorcyclist Killed in High Speed Crash on US 190 Lacombe – On Tuesday September 10, 2019 at approximately 1:45 PM, Troopers from Louisiana State Police Troop L responded to a fatal motorcycle crash on US 190 1.5 miles east of LA 434 in St. Tammany Parish. The crash has claimed the life of 45-year-old Michael Joseph Gros of Slidell. The initial investigation led Troopers to determine that the crash occurred as Gros was riding a 2007 Suzuki GSXR 1000 motorcycle eastbound on US 190. Gros merged into the westbound lane in an attempt to pass a row of five eastbound vehicles at a high rate of speed. While passing, Gros lost control of his motorcycle. The motorcycle traveled off the left side of the roadway, entered the ditch, and crashed into a telephone support rod. Despite wearing a DOT approved helmet, Gros sustained severe injuries in the crash. He was transported to an area hospital, where he ultimately succumbed to his injuries. As part of the ongoing investigation, blood samples were collected for analysis. Troopers would like to remind motorists of the importance of safe decisions behind the wheel. Please take a moment to speak with your loved ones about the importance of their safe decisions. Remind them to always wear a seatbelt, never drive impaired, and to avoid distractions. The conversation could be the difference in a serious crash. Contact Information: | |||
