| LOUISIANA STATE POLICE COURTESY LOYALTY SERVICE State Police, Troop A – News Release For Immediate Release Texas Resident Jailed for Transporting Marijuana April 19, 2008 At 9:39 PM, on Friday, April 18, 2008, Louisiana State Police – Troop A troopers initiated a traffic stop that led to the arrest of a Texas resident. The traffic stop took place on Interstate 12 (eastbound) near the Holden exit in Livingston Parish. While conducting traffic enforcement on Interstate 12, a trooper observed a Chrysler Sebring, driven by Mr. Scott A. Smith (Male/Age 32) from San Antonio, TX, commit a traffic violation. The trooper initiated a traffic stop and the driver pulled over. In talking to Mr. Smith, the trooper became suspicious as Mr. Smith was evasive, very nervous, provided conflicting stories and attempted to use someone else’s identity. The trooper requested permission to search the vehicle, but the request was denied. Jago, the Livingston Parish Sheriff’s Department K-9, and his handler were called to assist with the investigation. Jago gave a positive alert which resulted in a search of the vehicle. The investigation concluded with officers locating a plastic container in the trunk filled with twenty-five pounds of a substance believed to be marijuana. Mr. Smith was booked into the Livingston Parish Jail and charged with Improper Lane Usage, Providing False Information, and Possession With Intent to Distribute (Marijuana).
