TROOP L NEWS RELEASE Troopers Investigate Single Vehicle Fatal Crash on Interstate 12 Covington–At approximately 10:14 AM on Monday, November 12, 2018, Troopers from Louisiana State Police Troop L responded to a single vehicle fatal crash on Interstate 12 eastbound near the intersection of US 190. The crash has claimed the life of 71-year-old Pine Grove resident Michael A. Krause. The initial investigation led Troopers to determine that the crash occurred as Krause was driving a 2000 Dodge Durango east on Interstate 12, traveling in the right acceleration lane from US 190 northbound. Krause began to merge onto the right travel lane of Interstate 12 eastbound when he observed an unknown vehicle already occupying that lane of travel. Krause swerved to the right to avoid impact and lost control of his vehicle. The vehicle traveled off the roadway to the right, upon the grass beyond the shoulder, and impacted a large tree. Krause was restrained at the time of the crash and was transported to Lakeview Regional Medical Center by Fire District #4 Ambulance for moderate injuries sustained in the crash. Shortly after arriving at the hospital, Krause succumbed to injuries sustained in the crash. Impairment is not presently suspected as a contributing factor in this crash. As part of the ongoing investigation, blood samples were collected and will be sent to the Louisiana State Police Crime Lab for analysis. Contact Information: | |||
