TROOP L NEWS RELEASE August 30, 2017 Crossover Collision Leaves One Dead on Interstate 10 Slidell- At approximately 9:02 AM on Wednesday August 30, 2017, Troopers from Louisiana State Police Troop L responded to a two vehicle fatal crash on Interstate 10 westbound near Oak Harbor Blvd. The crash claimed the life of 52-year-old Jody G. Lasalle of Mandeville. The preliminary on-scene investigation led Troopers to determine that the crash occurred as Lasalle was driving a 2007 Ford F-150 eastbound on Interstate 10. For reasons still under investigation, Lasalle’s vehicle traveled off the roadway to the left, through the grass median and into the westbound travel lanes. Lasalle’s truck was struck on the driver’s side by a 2017 Ford F-150 driven by 30-year-old Louie Cole of Metairie. Both drivers were properly restrained at the time of the crash. Lasalle sustained moderate injuries and was transported to University Medical Center by Acadian Ambulance. Shortly after his arrival, Lasalle succumbed to injuries sustained in the crash. Cole was not injured in the crash. Cole provided investigating Troopers with a voluntary breath sample, which showed no amount of alcohol present. As part of the ongoing investigation, Troopers obtained blood samples from Lasalle. The samples will be sent to the Louisiana State Police Crime Lab for analysis. Troopers would like to remind motorists of the importance of safe decisions behind the wheel. Distractions, impairment, carelessness, and lack of restraint continue to be factors in preventable crashes.
