TROOP L NEWS RELEASE September 28, 2017 Bogalusa Resident Killed in Single Vehicle Crash on US 190 Covington- At approximately 6:20 AM on Thursday September 28, 2017, Troopers from Louisiana State Police Troop L responded to a single vehicle fatal crash on US 190 west of LA 1077 in St. Tammany Parish. The crash has claimed the life of 36-year-old Gladys Shareca Myres from Bogalusa. The preliminary on-scene investigation led Troopers to determine that the crash occurred as Myres was driving a 2002 Toyota Corolla westbound on US 190. Myres entered the eastbound lane in an attempt to pass another westbound vehicle. While passing, Myres lost control of her vehicle. Her vehicle exited the left side of the roadway and impacted a tree. Despite being properly restrained, Myres was severely injured in the crash. She was transported from the scene in critical condition to North Oaks Health Systems by Acadian Ambulance. Shortly after arriving at the hospital, Myres succumbed to the injuries she sustained in the crash. Impairment is not suspected to have been a contributing factor in this crash. As part of the ongoing fatality investigation, blood samples were obtained and will be sent to the crime lab for analysis. While the evidence pertaining to this crash remains under investigation, Troopers would like to remind motorists of the importance of safe decisions behind the wheel. Distractions, impairment, carelessness, and lack of restraint use continue to be factors in preventable crashes. Please, take a moment and speak to your loved ones about the importance of safe decisions while driving. The conversation you have today could be the difference tomorrow.
