| LOUISIANA STATE POLICE COURTESY LOYALTY SERVICE State Police, Troop A – News Release For Immediate Release Texas Resident Arrested For Carrying Drugs May 2, 2008 At 12:53 AM, Wednesday, April 30, 2008, Louisiana State Police – Troop A troopers stopped a blue Dodge Durango for a traffic violation resulting in the arrest of a Texas resident. The violation happened on Interstate (I-10) eastbound at milepost 153 in West Baton Rouge Parish. While conducting traffic enforcement on I-10, a trooper observed a Dodge Durango, driven by Mr. Miguel R. Ruiz (Male/Age 57) of Pharr, TX, commit a traffic violation. The trooper initiated a traffic stop and the driver pulled over. In talking to Mr. Ruiz, the trooper became suspicious as Mr. Ruiz could not answer the trooper’s questions without stumbling and he provided conflicting statements about his travels. The driver’s behavior aroused the trooper’s suspicion and resulted in a request to search the vehicle. The request was denied and the East Baton Rouge Parish Sheriff’s Department K-9 and his handler were called to assist with the investigation. The K-9 gave a positive alert which resulted in a search of the vehicle. During the search officers located 10 kilograms of a white powder (believed to cocaine) in a hidden compartment under the rear seat. Mr. Ruiz was booked into the West Baton Rouge Parish Jail for Improper Lane Usage and Possession with Intent to Distribute (cocaine). For more information contact: S/T Johnnie L.
