Slidell Resident Killed in Single Vehicle Crash on Interstate 12

Robert- At approximately 07:30 AM on Thursday, April 19, 2018, Troopers from Louisiana State Police Troop L responded to a single vehicle fatal crash on Interstate 12 westbound near milepost 49 in Robert. The crash has claimed the life of 32-year-old Slidell resident Nathan Daniel Irby.

The initial on-scene investigation led Troopers to determine that the crash occurred as Irby was driving a 2003 Ford Expedition westbound on Interstate 12 in the right lane. For reasons still under investigation, Irby’s vehicle traveled off the right side of the roadway and into the tree line, where it then impacted a large tree. Despite being properly restrained, Irby sustained severe injuries in the crash. Irby was transported from the scene by Acadian Air to North Oaks Health Systems, where he later succumbed to his injuries. As part of the on-going investigation, blood samples were obtained and will be sent to the Louisiana State Police Crime Lab for analysis.

Troopers would like to remind motorists of the importance of safe decisions behind the wheel. Please take a moment to speak with your loved ones about the importance of their safe decisions. Remind them to always wear a seatbelt, never drive impaired, and to avoid distractions. The conversation could be the difference in a serious crash.
