| TROOP L NEWS RELEASE August 4, 2018 St. Tammany Fatality Crash Claims the Lives of Mother and Daughter St. Tammany Parish – Yesterday evening, shortly before 7:00 pm, Louisiana State Police Troop L investigated a double fatality crash involving three vehicles on LA 1085 at LA 22. The crash claimed the lives of 16 year-old Hannah Landwehr and her mother, 43 year-old Brandi Landwehr of Madisonville, LA. Preliminary investigation revealed that Hannah Landwehr was driving a 2015 Honda Civic south on LA 1085. Brandi Landwehr was the front seat passenger in the Honda Civic. Hannah Landwehr stopped at the stop sign on LA 1085 at LA 22. Failing to yield to on-coming traffic, Hannah then proceeded to make a left turn onto LA 22. A 1996 Ford F-250, driven by Aaron Coyne of Ponchatoula, LA, was traveling west on LA 22 approaching LA 1085 and struck the driver’s door of the Honda Civic. The Civic was pushed across the east bound lane and shoulder of LA 22 and came to rest in the ditch. The Ford F-250 slid into the east bound lane and sideswiped a 2015 Chevrolet Sonic, driven by Patricia Jarrell of Abita Springs, LA, that was traveling east on LA 22. Hannah Landwehr was flown to North Oaks Hospital where she later died from her injuries. Brandi Landwehr was pronounced deceased on the scene. No other injuries were reported at the scene. Seat belts were utilized by all individuals involved in the crash. Impairment is not suspected on any of the drivers; however toxicology tests will be performed on Hannah Landwehr during autopsy. The crash remains under investigation. Troopers remind motorists to always look and make sure it is clear before pulling into traffic or across intersections. Always watch vehicles as they approach and gauge the distance they are covering as they approach. Never try and “make it” across when it is unsafe to do so. Keep distractions to a minimum and keep your focus on the road. It only takes a fraction of a second for a crash to occur. By following the rules of the road, using seat belts properly, avoiding distractions and driving sober, you can greatly reduce your chances of being involved in a motor vehicle crash.
