| TROOP L NEWS RELEASE August 22, 2018 Unrestrained Hammond Resident Killed in Two Vehicle Crash on LA 1040 Hammond- On Wednesday August 22, 2018 at 4:20 PM, Troopers from Louisiana State Police Troop L responded to a two vehicle fatal crash on LA 1040 [Old Baton Rouge Highway] near Crisp Rd. in Tangipahoa Parish. The crash has claimed the life of 30-year-old Dylan Slade McCarroll of Hammond. The initial investigation led Troopers to determine that the crash occurred as McCarroll was driving a 2001 Nissan Altima westbound on LA 1040 near Crisp Rd. For reasons still under investigation, McCarroll’s right tires traveled off the right side of the roadway. McCarroll steered his vehicle sharply to the left. The Altima then crossed into the eastbound lane sideways, where it was struck by a 2006 Peterbilt Van Truck. The front of the Peterbilt crashed into the right side of the Altima. The Peterbilt was driven by 56-year-old Texas resident Yousheng Wang. McCarroll was not wearing a seatbelt at the time of the crash. He sustained fatal injuries and was pronounced deceased on scene by the Tangipahoa Parish Coroner's Office. Wang was properly restrained and was uninjured in the crash. Wang provided Troopers with a voluntary breath sample, which showed no amount of alcohol present. As part of the on-going investigation, blood samples were collected from McCarroll. The samples will be sent to the Louisiana State Police Crime Lab for analysis. Troopers would like to remind all motorists of the importance of safe decisions behind the wheel. Please take a moment to speak with your loved ones about the importance of their safe decisions. Remind them to always wear a seatbelt, never drive impaired, and to avoid distractions. The conversation could be the difference in a serious crash. Contact Information: S/T Dustin Dwight | |||
