| TROOP L NEWS RELEASE August 23, 2018 Troopers Investigate Single Vehicle Fatal Crash on LA 443 Hammond- On Wednesday August 22, 2018 at 8:30 PM, Troopers from Louisiana State Police Troop L responded to a single vehicle fatal crash on LA 443 near Old Vineyard Rd. in Tangipahoa Parish. The crash has claimed the life of 58-year-old Joseph Benny Cline of Hammond. The initial investigation led Troopers to determine that the crash occurred as Cline was driving a 2001 Saturn L30 southbound on LA 443 near Old Vineyard Rd. For reasons still under investigation, Cline’s vehicle traveled into the northbound lane as it entered a right hand curve. Cline steered sharply to the right, causing his vehicle to run off the right side of the roadway and enter the ditch. The vehicle then rolled onto its driver’s side and crashed into a utility pole. Despite being properly restrained, Cline sustained severe injuries in the crash. He was transported to North Oaks Medical Center, where he ultimately succumbed to injuries sustained in the crash. Alcohol is not suspected as a contributing factor in this crash. As part of the ongoing investigation, blood samples were collected and will be sent to the Louisiana State Police Crime Lab for analysis. Troopers would like to remind motorists of the importance of safe decisions behind the wheel. Please take a moment to speak with your loved ones about the importance of their safe decisions. Remind them to always wear a seatbelt, never drive impaired, and to avoid distractions. The conversation could be the difference in a serious crash. Contact Information: S/T Dustin Dwight | |||
