Motorcyclist Killed in Two-Vehicle Crash on Lee Rd.

Covington- On Friday, September 7, 2018 at approximately 11:45 AM Troopers from Louisiana State Police Troop L responded to a two vehicle fatal crash involving a motorcycle on LA 437 [Lee Rd.] near the intersection of LA 1082 [Stafford Rd.] in St. Tammany Parish. The crash has claimed the life of 75-year-old Fredrick E. Lawshe of Covington.

The initial investigation led Troopers to determine that the crash occurred as Lawshe was riding a 1999 Honda motorcycle south on LA 437. As Lawshe entered a curve in the road, his motorcycle crossed into the northbound lane, where it crashed head-on into a 2007 Chevrolet Silverado driven by 49-year-old Jeffrey E. Graves of Bogalusa. Despite wearing a DOT approved helmet, Lawshe sustained fatal injuries in the crash. He was pronounced deceased on scene by the St. Tammany Parish Coroner’s Office. Graves was wearing a seatbelt at the time of the crash. He sustained minor injuries and was transported to St. Tammany Parish Hospital. Impairment is not suspected to have been a contributing factor in the crash. As part of the on-going investigation, blood samples were collected from both drivers and will be sent to the crime lab for analysis.

Troopers would like to remind motorists of the importance of safe decisions behind the wheel. Preventable crashes continue to represent the majority of fatal crashes Troopers investigate. In fact, according to information from the Louisiana Highway Safety Commission, alcohol impaired drivers alone represented forty percent of all traffic fatalities in 2016. Please take a moment to speak with your loved ones about the importance of their safe decisions. Remind them to always wear a seatbelt, never drive impaired, and to avoid distractions. The conversation could be the difference in a serious crash.
