TROOP L NEWS RELEASE July 06, 2018 Cyclist Killed in Hit and Run Crash on LA 1090 Slidell- Troopers from Louisiana State Police Troop L are looking for the driver of a dark colored GMC/Chevrolet pickup or SUV for questioning related to a fatal hit and run crash. At approximately 9:29 PM on Thursday July 5th, 2018, Troopers responded to a fatal crash involving a bicycle on LA 1090 at Brownswitch Rd. The crash has claimed the life of 42-year-old Sandra Duet Royer of Slidell. The initial investigation led Troopers to determine that the crash occurred as Royer was riding a Huffy mountain style bicycle northbound on LA 1090. The bicycle was equipped with a white light on the front of the bicycle and Royer was wearing an orange safety vest. Furthermore, evidence gathered from the scene indicated that Royer’s bicycle was equipped with a red reflector in the rear. While traveling northbound, Royer was struck from behind by a dark colored Chevrolet/GMC pickup or SUV. Royer was ejected from the bicycle and sustained severe injuries in the crash. She was transported to Ochsner Medical Center-Northshore, where she ultimately succumbed to injuries sustained in the crash. As part of the ongoing investigation, blood samples were collected for analysis. The suspect vehicle could have damage to the right rear view mirror and front end.
