| LOUISIANA STATE POLICE COURTESY LOYALTY SERVICE Colonel Michael D. Edmonson, Superintendent TROOP A - NEWS RELEASE Impairment and Lack of Seat Belt Use Believed to be Factors in Iberville Fatal Crash BATON ROUGE – A Plaquemine resident was killed in a single-vehicle crash this morning on LA 75 just outside of Plaquemine shortly before 7:00 a.m. Horace Anthony (B/M, age 41) of Plaquemine was traveling west on LA 75 just west of the Plaquemine city limits when his 1992 Chevrolet Pickup ran off the road to the left, began to rotate, and rolled more than three times. Anthony, who was not wearing a seat belt when the crash occurred, was ejected from the vehicle and died at the crash scene. Alcohol is suspected to have been a factor in the crash, and Troopers have submitted Anthony’s blood to the Louisiana State Police Crime Lab for chemical analysis. Lack of seat belt use and impaired drivers continue to be a major cause of serious injury and fatal crashes throughout the state. It only takes four seconds to buckle up when you get into a vehicle, which can potentially save your life during a crash. Vehicle occupants who are ejected during a crash are much more likely to suffer serious injuries or death than those who are properly restrained in the vehicle. Impairment can affect anyone’s ability to operate a motor vehicle. Illegal drugs, prescription medication, over-the-counter-drugs, and alcohol all have a negative effect on driver’s abilities.
