| LOUISIANA STATE POLICE COURTESY LOYALTY SERVICE Colonel Michael D. Edmonson, Superintendent TROOP A - NEWS RELEASE One Dead, Two Injured in Overnight Crash on Interstate 10 BATON ROUGE – A two-vehicle crash claimed the life of a Prairieville man this morning on Interstate 10 east of Siegen Lane, shortly before 2:00 a.m. Troopers’ investigation revealed that Frank Babin (W/M, age 22) of Gonzales was driving a 2000 GMC Pickup east on Interstate 10 when he swerved from the inside lane to the outside lane and off the roadway to the right. The pickup overturned and Babin, who was not restrained, was ejected. As Babin’s pickup swerved across the roadway, it forced another vehicle, a 2002 Toyota Pickup, off the roadway as well. The Toyota, being driven by Lauren Weber, rotated clockwise along the right side of Interstate 10 eastbound and struck a tree with its passenger side. Weber’s passenger, Brad D. Barnett (W/M, age 24) of Prairieville, was killed upon impact with the tree. Weber was transported to Baton Rouge General Hospital with moderate injuries. Babin was taken to Our Lady of the Lake with moderate injuries. Troopers suspect that Babin was impaired at the time of the crash and have charged him with DWI, Vehicular Homicide, Driving Under Suspension, Careless Operation, and No Seat belt. Troopers have submitted samples of both drivers’ blood to the Louisiana State Police Crime Lab for chemical analysis. Troopers would like to remind the motoring public that impaired driving is one of the leading causes of fatal crashes in the country. Troopers will continue to aggressively enforce Louisiana’s DWI law. Captain Frank Ducote, Troop A Commander, said, “We will do everything we can at Troop A to get impaired drivers off the roadway before they kill or injure others because of their poor choice to get behind the wheel.” Contact Information: TFC Russell G.
