20 Pounds of Marijuana Removed From Community

BATON ROUGE – A traffic stop for no seat belt leads to the removal of 20 pounds of marijuana from the rural community of East Feliciana Parish.

On December 12, a Trooper patrolling East Feliciana Parish observed a 1997 Mercury Marquis being driven by an unrestrained driver. When the trooper activated his emergency lights and sirens, the driver, a 16-year-old black male from Clinton, continued to drive on LA 63 north of LA 37 disregarding the trooper attempting to pull him over. The teenage driver eventually stopped the vehicle and was taken into custody without incident.

The trooper was granted consent to search the vehicle and located approximately twenty pounds of marijuana packaged in blocks and wrapped in plastic.

Troopers secured the marijuana and the vehicle, arrested the driver, and transported him to the East Feliciana Parish Jail, where he was processed and released to his mother. The teenager was charged with Flight from an Officer, Possession with Intent to Distribute Marijuana, No Seat Belt, Illegally Tinted Windows, and Driving without a License.
