TROOP L NEWS RELEASE Driver Dies in Head-On Crash on LA 16 Bogalusa – On Thursday, April 30, 2020 shortly before 7:00 AM, Troopers from Louisiana State Police Troop L responded to a two-vehicle, serious injury crash on LA 16 just west of LA 1074 in Washington Parish. The crash has claimed the life of 40-year-old Vanessa L. Kraft of Sun. The initial investigation led Troopers to determine that the crash occurred as Kraft was driving a Saturn SL2 east on LA 16. Kraft’s vehicle crossed the centerline and struck a Ford Ranger pickup truck traveling west head-on. Kraft received serious injuries and was transported to an area hospital. A short time later, Kraft succumbed to her injuries and was pronounced deceased at the hospital. Kraft’s use of a seat belt remains under investigation. The driver of the pickup truck was wearing a seat belt and was transported to an area hospital for moderate injuries. At this time, impairment is suspected. As part of the crash investigation, blood samples were collected for scientific analysis. The investigation remains ongoing and no additional information is available at this time. Louisiana State Troopers wish to remind motorists to make good, safe decisions such as never driving while impaired, always ensuring every occupant is properly restrained, obeying the speed limit, and avoiding all distractions which can often mean the difference between life and death. While not all crashes are survivable, statistics show that the chances of surviving a crash rise significantly when properly restrained. Contact Information: | |||
