Passenger Killed in Single-Vehicle Crash on US 51

Fluker – On Monday, May 11, 2020 shortly before 11:30 PM, Troopers from Louisiana State Police Troop L responded to a single-vehicle, serious injury crash on US 51 at LA 10 in Tangipahoa Parish. The crash has claimed the life of 62-year-old Sharon R. McBrayer of Forrest City, AR.

The initial investigation led Troopers to determine that the crash occurred as a Chevrolet Impala, driven by 58-year-old Stacie Mae Galbraith of Oklahoma City, was traveling east on LA 10. After disregarding a stop sign at the intersection with US 51, Galbraith’s vehicle traveled off the roadway and impacted an embankment. McBrayer, a passenger, was improperly wearing a seat belt at the time of the crash and received serious injuries. She was transported to an area hospital, succumbed to her injuries, and was pronounced deceased at the hospital. Galbraith received moderate injuries and was also transported to an area hospital. At this time, impairment is not suspected. As part of the ongoing investigation, toxicology will be performed on Galbraith. Galbraith was cited for L.R.S. 32:123B (Disregarding a Stop Sign), and any additional charges will be forwarded to the Tangipahoa Parish District Attorney’s Office. The investigation is ongoing and no additional information is available at this time.

Louisiana State Troopers wish to remind motorists making good choices while in motor vehicles such as never driving while impaired, always ensuring every occupant is properly restrained, obeying the speed limit, and avoiding all distractions can often mean the difference between life and death. While not all crashes are survivable, statistics show that the chances of surviving a crash rise significantly when properly restrained.
