Unrestrained Passenger Killed, Driver Arrested after Vehicle Crashes into Bulldozer

Hammond- Shortly before 1:00 PM on Thursday July 27, 2017, Troopers from Louisiana State Police Troop L responded to a fatal crash on Interstate 55 near Interstate 12. The crash has claimed the life of 24-year-old Tyler Wayne Tullos of Hammond.

The initial on-scene investigation led Troopers to determine that the crash occurred as 23-year-old Dillon Ryan Majesty of Independence was driving a 2014 Chevrolet Equinox northbound on Interstate 55 in the left lane just north of Interstate 55. Majesty’s vehicle traveled off the roadway to the left, entered the median, and crashed into the rear of a bulldozer. The bulldozer was part of a construction crew working in the center median. Tullos was unrestrained in the front passenger seat of the Equinox. He suffered fatal injuries in the crash and was pronounced deceased on-scene by the Tangipahoa Parish Coroner’s Office. Majesty was also unrestrained at the time of the crash. He sustained moderate injuries and was transported to North Oaks Health Systems by Acadian Ambulance. As part of the ongoing investigation, Troopers obtained blood samples. The samples will be sent to the Louisiana State Police Crime Lab for analysis. Based on Troopers observations, Majesty was arrested for 1st Offense DWI, Vehicular Homicide, Careless Operation and No Driver’s License. The investigation is ongoing.

Troopers would like to remind motorists of the importance of safe decisions behind the wheel. Distractions, impairment, carelessness, and lack of restraint continue to be factors in preventable crashes. Please, take a moment and speak to your loved ones about the importance of safe decisions while driving. The conversation you have today could be the difference tomorrow.
