TROOP L - NEWS RELEASE January 19, 2014 Teen Dies in St. Tammany One Vehicle Crash Early this morning at approximately 1:30 A.M., Troopers from Louisiana State Police Troop L began investigating a single vehicle serious injury crash on US 190 Business eastbound near I-10 in Slidell. The crash took the life of 19 year old Brandon Taylor Grubbs-Harwell of Pearl River. Preliminary investigation revealed that a 2003 Volkswagen Jetta operated by Grubbs-Harwell (W/M) was traveling eastbound on US 190 Business at a high rate of speed. Grubbs-Harwell passed two eastbound traveling vehicles, veered right, exited the roadway, and struck a utility pole. The Volkswagen continued, overturned, and came to rest in a ditch. During the crash Grubbs-Harwell received serious injuries and was transported to the Interim LSU Hospital LEVEL 1 Trauma Center in New Orleans where he later died. Speed is considered to be a factor in this crash. Grubbs-Harwell was restrained at the time of the crash and alcohol is not considered to be a factor. A blood sample was collected from Grubbs-Harwell so a toxicological analysis can be performed at the LSP Crime Lab, results are pending. The crash remains under investigation. Louisiana State Police urge every motorist to obey all traffic control signs, always stay vigilant behind the wheel, avoid distractions while driving, and always properly buckle up. Louisiana law requires that every person in a motor vehicle (cars and trucks), regardless of seating position, always to remain buckled up (day and night). Motorists who choose to drive aggressively pose a danger to themselves and everyone else on the roadway. Operating a vehicle at a high rate of speed increases its stopping distance and your chances of being seriously injured in the event of a crash. Louisiana State Police will continue to focus on high-risk driving behaviors to make the roadways of Louisiana safe. Contact Information: | |||
