Three Vehicle Crash Leaves Jefferson Man Dead in St. Tammany Parish

Yesterday at approximately 2:30 pm, Louisiana State Police initially responded to an injury crash on La. 25 near Folsom in St. Tammany Parish.

The preliminary investigation revealed that a 2001 Chevrolet pick-up operated by James Albury (W/M 76) of Mount Herman, La. was traveling northbound on La. 25. A 2004 Nissan pick-up operated by Gary White (W/M 66) of Jefferson, La. and a 2011 Chevrolet pick-up operated by Robert Ables (W/M 53) of Foley, Al. was traveling southbound on La. 25.

Albury, for reasons under investigation, crossed the center line completely entering the southbound lane. White swerved onto the southbound shoulder to avoid Albury; however, the front of the 2001 Chevrolet struck the front of the Nissan. As a result of the impact, the 2001 Chevrolet overturned coming to rest on La. 25 and the Nissan was pushed to the right, traveled off of the road, and struck a fence. In an attempt to avoid the 2001 Chevrolet, which was disabled in the roadway, Ables swerved right, traveled off of the road, and side-swiped the Nissan.

White was transported to the Interim LSU Hospital LEVEL 1 Trauma Center in New Orleans with moderate to serious injuries. He eventually succumbed to his injuries and was pronounced dead later that evening. Albury and Ables were not injured.

All parties were restrained at the time of the crash. Alcohol is not a factor on White's nor Ables' part. Alcohol and narcotic use are suspected on Albury's part and a urine sample was taken for a toxicological analysis. Those results are pending and this crash remains under investigation.

Albury was arrested for DWI, Improper Lane Usage, and Vehicular Homicide. He was booked in the St. Tammany Parish Jail.

While the toxicology results in this crash are still pending, Troopers remind drivers about the dangers of impaired driving. Impairment remains a leading factor in fatal crashes across Louisiana. Even after having just one drink a person’s decision making abilities are hindered. Troopers urge motorists to have a plan before they begin drinking or taking medications, prescription or over the counter.
