TROOP L NEWS RELEASE September 4, 2013 Single Vehicle Crash Claims Life of Ponchatoula Driver Goodbee, LA – Shortly after 11:00am this morning, Troopers from Louisiana State Police Troop L began investigating a single vehicle fatal crash on Interstate 12 approximately two miles east of the St. Tammany / Tangipahoa Parish line. The crash took the life of the 19 year old driver Hailey Nagim of Ponchatoula, LA. Troopers’ investigation revealed that the crash occurred as Nagim was traveling east in a 2001 Jeep Cherokee when, for unknown reasons, the vehicle exited the roadway to the left into the grass median. As the vehicle left the paved roadway, Nagim overcorrected to the right and then back to the left causing the Cherokee to continue further into the median and strike a tree on its driver’s side. Nagim was airlifted from the scene to the Interim LSU Public Hospital in New Orleans where she was pronounced dead as a result of injuries sustained in the crash. Nagim was properly restrained at the time of the crash and impairment is not suspected to be a factor. While the crash remains under investigation, Troopers urge motorists to remain vigilant while behind the wheel and avoid distractions especially the temptations of electronic devices. Motorists that witness hazardous situations are urged to call *LSP (*577) and report that activity to the Louisiana State Police.
