**UPDATE**
The driver of the 1995 Ford pickup truck has been identified as 53 year old Michael Meredith of Franklinton, LA. The investigation into the events of the crash remains ongoing.

Unrestrained Driver Killed in Washington Parish Crash

Franklinton, LA – A Franklinton resident was killed shortly before 5:00 pm yesterday afternoon after being involved in a single vehicle crash on LA 10 in Washington Parish. The crash occurred approximately five miles east of the Franklinton city limits. At this time, Troopers are actively searching for the driver’s next of kin whose identity will be released upon family notification.

Preliminary investigation revealed that the crash occurred as the victim was traveling east on LA 10 in a 1995 Ford pickup truck. For unknown reasons, the Ford pickup traveled off the right side of the paved roadway resulting in the driver overcorrecting to the left and then back to the right causing the vehicle to overturn. As the vehicle overturned, the unrestrained driver was partially ejected from the truck resulting in fatal injuries.

The driver of the Ford pickup truck was pronounced dead at the scene by the Washington Parish Coroner’s Office. Impairment is not suspected at this time pending toxicology analysis.

While the crash remains under investigation, Troopers urge motorists to remain vigilant while behind the wheel and avoid distractions especially the temptations of electronic devices.

Motorists that witness hazardous situations are urged to call *LSP (*577) and report that activity to the Louisiana State Police.
