TROOP L - NEWS RELEASE October 25, 2013 Illegal Gambling and Bookmaking Operation Uncovered in Washington Parish Yesterday, members of the Louisiana State Police Bureau of Investigations Gaming Enforcement Division and High Intensity Drug Trafficking Areas (HIDTA) task force arrested seven individuals involved in a bookmaking ring in Washington Parish. In March 2013, LSP detectives received information from the Washington Parish Sheriff's Office related to an illegal gambling ring. Through investigative techniques, detectives were able to gather information that led to arrest warrants for Lee Henry (B/M, age 64) and Larry Blackwell (B/M, age 68), both of Bogalusa, for charges of Illegal Gambling. In addition, search warrants were executed at their residences of 21313 Mitch Road and 428 Louisiana Avenue in Bogalusa, respectively. The warrants were executed by Louisiana State Police, Washington Parish Sheriff's Office, DEA New Orleans and the Louisiana National Guard Air Support. Detectives recovered approximately $10,000.00 cash, bookmaking paraphernalia and a small amount of marijuana. Five additional arrests were made after executing the warrants and all subjects were booked into the Washington Parish Jail. Cooley (B/M age 24), Simple Possession of Marijuana Partnerships with local, state and federal law enforcement agencies are extremely important to Louisiana State Police and play a key part in LSP’s commitment to proactive crime reduction.
